Gatwick Airport monorail to close

Gatwick Airport monorail to close Passengers travelling from Gatwick Airport may want to head online to book car parking for when the travel hub's monorail closes this autumn.

The public transport system, which links the south and north terminals, will be shut from September 28th 2009 until spring 2010.

Maintenance work will be carried out on the line during this period and a replacement bus service will ferry passengers between the two terminals.

There are 33,414 car parking spaces at the airport, making it easy for passengers to find a spot to leave their vehicle.

Gatwick Airport is the second busiest in the UK after Heathrow, and more than 35 million people use its services each year.

The travel hub operates flights to 189 foreign destinations and 13 within the UK.

This news comes as Gatwick Airport responded to the Mayor of London's transport strategy.

According to the travel hub, it is "looking forward" to working with the Mayor.
