Table tennis record smashed at Manchester AirportFlyers at Manchester Airport were lucky enough to see a world record recently, after double Olympian Andrea Holt and fellow stars Alex Perry and Mark Roscaleer smashed the time set for the longest ever table tennis rally.

The threesome began play at 08:57 BST and carried on playing until 17.24 BST, a total of eight hours and 27 minutes – beating the previous record by eight minutes.

Finnair staged the event as part of the launch of its fastest ever connections between Manchester Airport and Asia.

Jukka Hienonen, chief executive at Finnair told theboltonnews.co.uk: "Being able to go down in the record books for the longest table tennis rally is a fantastic success.

"Someone could have travelled half way around the world during the time it took the players to finish! I thank and congratulate the amazing achievement made by Andrea, Alex and Mark."

Although Manchester Airport is only Britain’s fourth biggest it offers more routes than any other in the UK.

It has a comprehensive array of airport hotels, airport parking areas and airport lounges to help it handle well over 20 million flyers a year.
