Power outage causes delays at Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport was thrown into chaos earlier today when a power cut caused flights to be delayed by up to an hour.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the whole of the airport was left without any electricity at around 05:30 BST this morning.

Engineers desperately tried to get the lines back on after a flood in one of the electrical plant rooms affected the building’s supply.

A spokesman told the newspaper: "Quite a number of electrical systems were knocked out, but emergency power kicked in and we maintained full security as usual.

"We have not had to cancel any flights, but there were delays of up to an hour in some cases. We have been advising passengers to turn up on time, but not to arrive any earlier than normal."

Delays continued in the baggage hall with the power supply leaving many waiting for over an hour to get their luggage back after their flight.

A separate incident involving Air Traffic Control problems in West Drayton means that Manchester Airport passengers can expect delays to continue throughout the day.
