Emirates recently reached the milestone of carrying the 100,000th passenger on its route between Newcastle Airport and Dubai.
The 100,000th traveller on the service was Michael Reay, a company director who uses the connection to travel to the United Arab Emirates for business reasons.
When checking in for his flight, Mr Reay was presented with a gift of two return economy class tickets from Newcastle to Dubai.
Laurie Berryman, manager of Emirates for the northern UK, said: "We are thrilled to be reaching this milestone in our Newcastle service so quickly, and several weeks ahead of what we had forecast.
"The demand for Emirates’ service from Newcastle has exceeded our expectations, and travellers from the region are clearly taking advantage of our network to fly to Dubai and beyond."
Emirates’ connection between Newcastle and Dubai was inaugurated just over nine months ago on September 1st 2007.
It gives travellers from the north-east the opportunity to connect to destinations including Bangkok, Sydney, Perth and the Maldives.
