More Brits could jet off to New York City this year following the release of the Sex and the City movie, according to the chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO).
The film version of the popular New York-based TV show was released in May to a rapturous reception among fans in the UK and the US.
New York City’s central part in the movie combined with the strong exchange rate for Brits could lead to a rise in the number of people visiting the Big Apple, according to AITO chairman Derek Moore.
"The recent release of Sex and the City will remind people that New York is an ideal short break destination and will have a positive impact on the city’s tourism industry," he said.
"The strength of the pound against the dollar offers tourists good value at the moment, adding an extra incentive to visit."
The UK is New York’s top source market for tourism, according to the city’s official marketing organisation, with more than 1.1 million Brits visiting in 2006.
