Christmas treat for Prestwick Airport passengers

Sick Scottish children have jetted off to Lapland from Prestwick Airport as part of a festive charity treat.

Named the Lapland Express, a special charter plane left the airport early on Wednesday morning, carrying 57 children who are currently battling life-threatening illnesses, as well as their families.

For the duration of the trip, the special passengers will get to ride snowmobiles and take husky rides across the Arctic Circle as well as meet Santa and his reindeer.

Seeing the children off on their adventure, Prestwick Airport chief executive Mark Rodwell stated: "The annual trip to Lapland is a fantastic day out for these children and their families after all that they have been through.

"It is very humbling to see the sheer joy on their faces that this day brings and the airport is very proud that we are able to contribute towards making it happen."

Just recently, New Zealand’s Infratil, which owns the airport, announced that it is to invest £250 million in planned expansions of passenger facilities.
