Luton airport has recently released its 2010 Community Engagement Report.
This document outlines what the travel hub achieved last year, in addition to what it aims to do in the future.
"Management and staff at London Luton Airport are extremely proud of the contributions that the airport made for our local community in 2010. We look forward to continuing this good work in 2011," Glyn Jones, the travel hub's managing director, said.
The report revealed that last year, the facility raised over £42,000 for Keech Hospice Care, a local charity, and directed £50,000 for its Airport Community Trust Fund to finance 32 initiatives.
Aid to the tune of £25,000 was also raised for flood victims in Pakistan. Last month the facility held a presentation to thank the community groups that had helped it to reach this sum.
In addition, between 2009 and 2010, the travel hub recycled 22 per cent of its total waste. The facility also helped the environment by cutting CO2 emissions by seven per cent from airport controlled buildings between 2008 and 2010.
