A survey by TripAdvisor has found that Cape Town is the top destination in the world, beating off competition from Sydney and Peru's Machu Picchu.
Passengers using Gatwick Airport for flights abroad might also want to consider places like Paris, Rio de Janeiro and New York City, which all made up the top six.
In Europe, Paris came out on top with Rome in second place and London in third, while Barcelona and Prague were other destinations in the top five.
When it came to the UK, travellers were more likely to fly into London, with Edinburgh and Bath in the top three spots.
"London's performance is especially meaningful as so much time and effort has gone into preparing the city for the 2012 Olympics and hopefully it will sneak ahead of Paris and Rome before the Games start," said TripAdvisor spokesperson Emma Boyle.
Last month, it was revealed that China is now the world's third most popular tourist destination in the world, with over 55 million visitors staying at least one night in the country during 2010.
