A female pilot has achieved her dream of being a commercial pilot after years of training.
Sabine Hargreaves flies Boeing 737s from Leeds Bradford Airport for Jet2 to destinations including the Balearics, Paris, Malaga, Nice and Amsterdam, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.
Speaking to the newspaper, she explained she first applied to be a pilot at 18 years old with Lufthansa, but at the time they were not taking female candidates.
Instead, she moved from her home of Germany at the age of 22 to England and after becoming a pilot she eventually became a flight controller at Stansted and Gatwick Airports.
"But I kept flying and saving money and taking exams towards my commercial licence. I had to pass 14 exams in order to become a [commercial] pilot," Ms Hargreaves told the newspaper.
She gave up her job to become a full-time flight instructor and eventually achieved her goal at 41 years old.
Travellers can reach a wide range of destinations with Jet2 from Leeds Bradford Airport, including Ibiza, Alicante, Corfu, Cyprus and Dusseldorf, close to Ms Hargreaves' home town.
