Motorists heading for London Luton Airport via M1 Junction 10a are advised to allow extra time for their journeys until spring/summer 2015
Luton Borough Council has begun work on a £30 million improvement scheme to improve the link from the M1 to London Luton Airport and ease congestion by removing the junction’s roundabout and widening New Airport Way (A1081) and the M1 spur road to three lanes in each direction between Junction 10 and Capability Green
Two lanes will be kept open in each direction whenever possible during daytime and peak hours throughout the works, however motorists should allow for potential delays when planning their journeys.
From early March onwards, a 24-hour 30mph speed limit will be introduced on the M1 spur / New Airport Way in order to maintain the safety of the workforce. While the road will remain open for the busiest periods of the day, there will be several overnight closures. A signposted diversion will be in place to guide you to the airport. Later in the programme it is also anticipated that it will be necessary to close M1 Junction 10 on a number of Saturday evenings to allow for the safe installation of new overhead sign gantries.
The works programme is due to run for 70 weeks, with the finished road opening by spring/summer 2015.
