Heathrow Airport fits electric car charge points

Heathrow Airport fits electric car charge points Heathrow Airport has joined up with Transport for London to fit electric car charge points at the travel hub.

Now owners of electric cars can use short-stay car parks at Terminals 1, 3, 4 and 5 to charge their vehicles.

Each of these car parks has two charging points for four parking spaces.

Allan Gregory, the airport's surface access director, said: "Heathrow is helping London lead the way in promoting the use of low-emission electric vehicles."

The charge points have been added as one component of mayor of London Boris Johnson's Source London initiative.

This scheme has so far fitted 150 electric vehicle charging points for the public to London's network and aims to install 1,3000 charge points for the public to access by 2013.

Mr Gregory added that the travel hub wanted to manage itself in a sustainable manner and expressed his "delight" at the facility taking part in the initiative.

In addition, Gatwick Airport has made efforts to help towards achieving a low-carbon economy.

The travel hub's endeavours were recognised by the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme earlier this year.
