Luton Airport has announced that it is clamping down on people who drop passengers off in authorised areas.
From August 23rd, drivers found to be dropping off passengers on approach roads, roundabouts or the bus lane leading up to the terminal building will be issued with an £80 penalty charge. This will be reduce to £40 if the fine in paid within 14 days.
Mobile CCTV cameras will be used to enforce the new measures. Those wishing to drop off passengers at the airport can do so outside the terminal at a price of £1 for ten minutes.
Drivers can also park in the medium-stay car park for one hour for free and catch a five minute shuttle bus to the terminal building.
Luton Airport said: "This charge will not benefit the Airport financially. It is intended to stop the current practice of drivers picking up or setting down passengers in unauthorised areas."
Airport drop-off charges have been in the news recently after Edinburgh Airport announced that it is to introduce a £1 fee for drivers dropping off passengers at the terminal building.
