Edinburgh Airport started commercial services in 1947, previously having been a British air defence base known as Turnhouse Aerodrome since 1918.

Situated in Ingleston, just off the M8, about 6 miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre, it is the busiest airport in Scotland and handling over 12.3 million passengers in 2016 and is the sixth busiest in the UK.

Edinburgh Airport is currently owned and operated by Global Infrastructure Partners, which is also the majority shareholder and management leader at Gatwick Airport. There is one main terminal building and two runways servicing all arrivals and departures. Among many other airlines, Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways all fly out of Edinburgh Airport.

How to Get to Edinburgh Airport

The entrance to Edinburgh Airport is reached by the A8 Glasgow Road, close to the M8 and M9 motorways. The A8 junction is between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts.

Edinburgh Official on-airport parking includes the Long Stay car park as well as the budget option Plane Parking where you can use the free bus service to get to and from the terminal. Then there is the Mid Stay car park which is a little closer with a 5-8-minute walk to the terminal. All these car parks are self-park which means you can keep your car keys.

Short Stay Parking Edinburgh Airport

There are two Short stay parking options at Edinburgh Airport. Terminal Surface Parking, located right outside the terminal just a short walk to check-in and the covered Multi-Storey car park which included fastTRACK for passengers with hand luggage only.

Off-Airport Parking near Edinburgh Airport

Cheaper options available off the airport will include a free transfer bus, however unlike parking at the airport, you may need to leave your car keys at this type of car park.

Secure Airparks is a popular near-by car park with the Park-mark award, with just a couple minutes needed to transfer to the terminal.

Low Cost Parking, around 10 minutes away, offers very competitive rates too.

Meet and Greet at Edinburgh Airport

With this option, you will be met outside Edinburgh airport’s terminal building so no buses are required. Your car is then taken to a secured site before it is bought back to the terminal on your return so you can drive straight home.

Maple Manor Meet and Greet and Ace Meet and Greet both offer this service, which can also be very useful for those with mobility difficulties, families and travellers with large items of luggage e.g. skiers, snowboarders and golfers etc.

There are several hotels close to Edinburgh Airport and If you are driving to the airport you can book an Edinburgh hotel and parking package which will save you money on booking these two items separately.

The Doubletree by Hilton is ten minutes walk to the terminal or two minutes in the shuttle bus, this hotel has leisure facilities including an indoor pool.
