Heathrow Airport, The UK's largest and busiest airport is the third busiest in the world by international passenger traffic and sixth by total passenger traffic with 75.7 million passengers in 2016.

In 1929, Heathrow Airport, was a small airfield called Great West Aerodrome, on land south-east of the hamlet of Heathrow from which the airport takes it's name. It opened as London Airport in 1946 and was later renamed Heathrow Airport in 1966.

With the closure of terminal 1 in 2015, there are now four operating terminals, numbered 2-5. Over 80 airlines fly from Heathrow to 185 destinations in 84 countries.

How to Get to Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport is situated 15 miles (23km) west of central London and easily accessible from the M4 and M25 motorways. Terminals 2 & 3 are close together at the centre of the airport site off the M4, and off the M25 Terminal 4 lies in the southern part of the airport site whilst Terminal 5 is on the Western Perimeter Road.

For those very useful satellite navigation aids the post codes are as follows:

Terminal 2 - TW6 1EW

Terminal 3 - TW6 1QG

Terminal 4 - TW6 3XA

Terminal 5 - TW6 2GA

Free, convenient transfers are available between Heathrow's terminals. Terminals 2 and 3 are a short walk from each other and Terminals 4 and 5 are served by free trains and buses. Average journey times include waiting time.

Between Terminals 2 and 3 use the pedestrian underpass, the route is signposted and takes around 10 minutes.

Four shuttle trains run every hour between Terminals 2 & 3 and Terminal 4, average journey time is 20 minutes

Heathrow Express run every 15 minutes between Terminals 2 & 3 and Terminal 5, average journey time is 20 minutes

Between terminals 4 and 5 you can use bus number 482 or 490, average journey time is 20 minutes

On-Airport Parking at Heathrow Airport

There are several on-airport parking options to choose from and these are all run by the airport.

Long Stay Parking at Heathrow Airport

There are three Long Stay and three business Car Parks, servicing all terminals where you need to use a transfer bus. There is also the Pod parking at T5 where you get the futuristic driverless Pod that takes you into the airport in just 4-6 minutes.

Short Stay Parking Heathrow Airport

Each terminal has a short stay Multi-storey car park next to the terminal. Just walk from here into the terminal.

Off-Airport Parking near Heathrow Airport

For budget conscious travellers, there are off-airport park and ride car parks. Purple Parking transfers to all four terminals from its modern multi-storey car park on the main A4 Bath road and there is the popular, Reeds Service Park close to T4 and T5 whilst the NCP Flightpath car park serves T2 and T3. These options offer a free shuttle service to and from the airport and transfers take around 10 minutes on average.

Meet and Greet at Heathrow Airport

For the ultimate convenience, there are several car parks that offer a Meet and Greet service. Here you are met either outside the terminal, or in the adjacent multi-storey short stay car park. Some of the companies that offer this service include ACE Meet and Greet, Edward Lloyd Meet and Greet and Business Meet and Greet.

Hotels with parking at Heathrow Airport

Heathrow has abundant hotels and many offer a package that includes parking for the duration of your trip.

Popular hotels close to Terminals 2 and 3 include the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Sheraton Skyline Hotel and the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel. There is a Hilton Hotel attached to Terminal 4 and from the Thistle Hotel you can use the exciting POD shuttle straight into Terminal 5.

Heathrow Airport Departure Lounge

There are plenty of restaurants to dine at and cafes to enjoy a coffee and a snack as well as bars that serve food too.

Well known chefs are a feature here with eateries such as Heston's the Perfectionists Cafe and The Gorgeous Kitchen at T2, popular Retro Pilots Bar and Kitchen from Rhubarb at T3 and T5 as well as Gordon Ramseys Plane Food at T5.

If you like shopping, Heathrow has some prestige shops to browse in. To name just a few, Terminal 2 has Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Bvlgari, Gucci and Smythson. Terminal 3 has Cartier, Chanel, Hermes and Missoni and Tiffany, Terminal 4 has Longchamp, Mulberry, Rolex, Valentino and Versace, with Terminal 5 boasting many more including Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chloe, Dior, St Laurent, Stella McCartney and Tods.

Just want to top up the holiday wardrobe, don't worry there are also some of the high street brands you might expect like Ted Baker, Cath Kidston, Sunglass Hut, Boots and WH Smith as well as World Duty Free.

There's free Wi-Fi available throughout the terminals for the duration of your stay at Heathrow.

For customers requiring assistance, the airport recommends that you inform your airline, tour operator or travel agent of your needs at the time of booking, or at least 48 hours before your travel and to try to give as much notice as possible so arrangements can be made for you. Assistance dogs are allowed in the terminal buildings, you must inform your airline that you are travelling with an assistance dog at least 48 hours in advance.

For passengers wearing hearing aids, Induction loops are found throughout the airport and payphones and credit card telephones are available that have been adapted for hearing.

Heathrow Airport Lounge

For a comfortable start to your journey away from the hustle and bustle, you can book an executive lounge and enjoy complimentary drinks and hot and cold snacks. The lounges can be booked for a stay of up to 3 hours, however some of the lounges can be booked for up to 6 hours for those on a lay-over and some offer beauty treatments too.

Each terminal has one or more that can be pre-booked, like Plaza Premium Lounge at T2 and T4, The No:1 Lounge at T3, also the Club Aspire at T3 with the The Aspire Lounge and Spa at T5 and the Sky Team at T4.

Five Star Meet & Greet

Highly recommended! We've used several meet and greet services at LHR and Five Star lived up to their name! Unlike other companies they actually help to co-ordinate the smooth pick up and drop off as they call you about half hour before your ETA then again when you get within a few miles of the airport. I much prefer this compared to other companies who require that you call them. Our driver called us a third time as he was concerned that he was at the wrong terminal but we were stuck in traffic near the tunnel. When we got to short T2 stay we didn't have to go hunting down our driver he was ready and waiting for us. Homebound we were delayed for an hour but this was no problem for Five Star. We called when we landed and again as we got our cases and our car was waiting for us in short stay T5 in an easily seen spot and again the driver was waiting to hand over the keys we didn't need to go looking for the driver. Normally we have to wait a little while but not with Five Star they are pro active in catching up with their clients rather than the other way and you can tell that they care about the quality of service they offer and both drivers were very polite. Well done Five Star it takes a lot to impress me but you managed it !

Drivefly Park & Ride Terms 2 & 3

The site is poorly lit and difficult to know where to park when arriving in the dark. There were no staff to guide you where to park either. The car park is mainly compacted uneven soil. This means it is full of puddles in the rain and a trip risk. Additionally you do not want to place your bags on the floor as the wheels will clog up and your bags will become filthy. This is certainly a trip risk for elderly people. The waiting time to go there and back is too long. We were kept waiting 15 minutes to leave and 20 minutes to be collected. Other companies turned up twice whilst we waited.

Star Parking - Meet and Greet (Terms 2 3 & 5)

Very good. No complaints at all. I thought there may be a problem as we dropped the car off at LHR Term 3 but flew back into Term 5. However our flight was delayed by an hour due to bad weather. We rang when picked up luggage as requested and within 5 minutes of us arriving at the designated area in the short term parking, our car arrived. Could not ask for a better service!

Buzz Park and Ride

Great experience with a friendly local company. The best price we could find, really convenient off the motorway, and staff were friendly. We dropped off the car and the bus took us within 15 mins to terminal 4. On arriving back we called and the driver was again with us in 15 mins. Our car didn’t seem to have been moved at all and we were happy with the experience. One tip - slightly hard to find but if you follow their directions it is to the side of what looks like a petrol station - the silver gates to the right hand side.

Happy Days Meet & Greet

Timing was fine and drivers were polite. I was uncomfortable that i did not get any paperwork from the collecting driver - he just showed me a screenshot on his mobile phone. I would have liked some form of identification. The car had mud on its wheels when delivered back to the departure area so i have a feeling it was kept in a field? Not sure if i would use again

Frequently Asked Questions

Cancelling a booking is dependent on the type of product booked and the car park type as Non-flexible bookings cannot be cancelled at any time.

Flexible bookings can be cancelled any time after the booking is made, up to 24 hours before your booking arrival date.

There is a £10 cancellation fee, with the balance refunded. unless you took out the waiver fee when booking.

You can make the cancellation yourself by going to the help page and clicking on Cancel Booking

It's not a problem if your flight back to Heathrow is delayed. Your car will be kept safe and you can pay for any additional parking at the car park when you return to collect your vehicle.

Non-flexible bookings cannot be amended or cancelled.

Flexible bookings can be amended without incurring an amendment fee, however if the amendment results in a price increase ( e.g. a date change), you will be required to pay the additional amount.

You can request the amend by going to our help section and clicking on Amend Booking.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund on bookings that aren’t used due to a vehicle breaking down.

There isn't a discount for booking more than one car but if you have a discount code or promotional email offer then this will be applied to all the cars on the booking.

If you're looking to make a booking to park more than one car at Gatwick then you can easily do this on our website. Simply enter your dates and times, choose the option that best suits you and when you click through to the booking form you'll have the option to "Add a car" and can make a booking for up to 5 vehicles at the same time.

When you book a Meet and Greet Car Park, you will be met at the airport by a fully insured Chauffeur, who drives your car to a secured storage site.

On return, your vehicle is bought back to the terminal, so you can just drive straight home.

Holders of the Park Mark® award have been risk assessed by a crime prevention officer from the local police. The Safer Parking Scheme is an initiative of the Association of Chief Police Officers and is managed by the British Parking Association.

We'll send you an email confirmation following your booking. This will confirm all the details of your booking, including a booking reference, so you can check that everything is ok.

If you didn't receive a booking confirmation email from us, please check your email provider spam/junk folder.

To re-send your booking confirmation, find your booking and select the 'Re-send booking confirmation' option.

It is important to have access to your Booking Confirmation, but you don’t have to print it. You must however ensure it is fully visible on your phone or device, so you can see all the information, directions and procedures you need to follow.

Booking Confirmations are sent upon completion of your booking, so if you don’t see it in your inbox please check your Junk/Spam folder in case it is there. 

You can view or print or resend your confirmation voucher yourself by going to our help section and clicking on  View Booking or Resend Confirmation Email.

If you do not have the booking reference number, you can email us, or call us.

There is no charge to amend your car details.

You can make the change yourself by going to our help section and clicking on Amend Booking.

An invoice showing payment made will be sent to you by separate email from either Worldpay or from PayPal. 

We don't use the parking confirmation as a payment receipt, as they sometimes need to be handed over to the car park.  

You can get a VAT invoice by going to our Help page and clicking on Request VAT Invoice

Most car parks charge per day or part thereof, i.e. they count the day you enter the car park and the day you leave. That means a 7 night trip is 8 calculated as days parking and a 14 night trip will be 15 days parking.

This will depend on the car park you book, but we recommend that you arrive to drop the car off at least minutes 30 minutes prior to your earliest check-in/bag drop time. 

The 'parking from' time on your confirmation is the time slot the car park has allocated you, so it’s important to let us know if you need to change the time, if its more than 24 hours before you are due to park. If it is less than 24 hours before your meet is due, you should call the chauffeurs using the number on your confirmation voucher.

Vehicle Details We can update vehicle details at any point. There is no charge for amending vehicle details.

Dates & Times Most bookings can be changed up to 24 hours before the booked arrival date. However, if you have booked an option marked as Non-refundable or Saver then the dates and times on these options cannot be amended and the booking cannot be cancelled. We are unable to amend details with 24 hours of your booked arrival date.
