Stansted Airport last night (May 23rd) welcomed the US president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle when they arrived from a visit to Ireland.
The couple reached the travel hub ahead of schedule as they wanted to avoid any possible disruptions that the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland could cause to their journey.
On their visit, the pair will go to Buckingham Palace to meet with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for about ten minutes, a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said.
At the meeting, the president, who was not a guest at the recent royal wedding, will be able to offer his congratulations to the couple.
After this they will attend a formal ceremonial welcome in the gardens of the palace as part of their state visit to the country.
When the Obamas arrived at Dublin Airport for a tour of Ireland they were greeted by tanaiste Eamon Gilmore and his spouse.
