St Tropez, South of France: Luxury versus Affordable

Chic Saint Tropez, a small fishing village on the Cote d’Azur, became famous in the 50’s and 60’s with the arrival of glamorous showbiz icons. Thereafter, this little piece of France would never be the same again!

St Tropez, playground of the rich and famous

This area has the most expensive accommodation in France. We thought, therefore, it would be great to find an affordable option for those who wish to get a taste of luxury but without the price tag. We have, of course, chosen a luxury version also, for those wishing to spend a little more!

The bay of St Tropez stretches around the coast in a horseshoe shape taking in the beautiful area of Port Grimaud, known locally as ‘Little Venice’. Here you can wander the narrow streets, browse the shops, check out the yachts and take in the atmosphere. There are waterways dotted with moorings, along which are housed many restaurants and cafes, some having terraces overlooking the water. A perfect spot for dinner as the sun fades.

A Luxury Holiday in St Tropez

Well we say ‘luxury’ and this choice certainly comes with a luxurious price tag! If you can afford it then this has to be the way to holiday in this part of the world. Saint Tropez is a magnet for the rich and famous, and people watching is a large part of its draw. Sitting at one of the many restaurants along the quay, you are drawn into the world that is ‘yachting’.

Get together with a group of friends or family and charter one of these beauties for a week. Although very costly, you will have the time of your life living in this bubble, albeit temporarily! There are many options here, and we have chosen the crewed motor yacht ‘Of Villa Romana‘. She accommodates up to 7 guests in 3 cabins and will cost from £30,000 a week. This yacht is available to rent on a daily basis if you wish to choose a shorter break.

An Affordable Holiday in St Tropez

We have focused on a family holiday with this option. It is an excellent choice for up to six people, giving you the opportunity to experience this beautiful area at a great price. Prairies De La Mer is a 5* Holiday Resort, located right on the beach next to the beautiful Port Grimaud ‘lagoon city’. Everything you could possibly need for a family holiday is right here on your doorstep. The resort itself has beachside restaurants; entertainment, including live music and cabaret shows; kids clubs; swimming pool and water sports. All this in a fantastic setting with views over to St Tropez. When you feel the urge to leave the resort, you may hop on a boat over the bay and indulge yourself a little.

A Riviera Lodge for six people (adults/children) will cost around £920 for the week 24th-31st August 2019. If you wish to travel earlier in August, this price will double. In the UK we have the advantage of being able to holiday cheaper in France towards the latter part of August as the French holiday period is over and prices reduce considerably.

Getting There

Daily flights are available to Nice Airport with several carriers. Taxis and public transport can be taken to the St Tropez area. Car Hire is available in August from £195 per week.
If you choose to drive to the South of France it will take around 15 hours from London.

Finally, if you are flying from the UK you may require Airport Parking and possibly an Airport Hotel.  Book these on our site well in advance to secure the best possible price. Don’t forget we also offer extras such as Car Hire and Travel Insurance which you may require for your trip.
